Distinctive Research Centers and Projects
The Nambu Institute of Physics was established (Director: Prof. Koji Itoyama) on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Nobel Prize of the late Dr. Yoichiro Nambu (Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Osaka City University, Nobel Laureate in Physics 2008). Based on Dr. Yoichiro Nambu's research philosophy of borderless, free thinking and originality, the institute is actively engaged in world-class, cutting-edge research in the major fields of elementary particles, atomic nuclei, the universe and physical properties.
Education and Research Center for Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology
The Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka City University promotes medical-engineering collaboration and medical engineering research by approaching common issues from multiple directions through collaboration between researchers specializing in engineering and medicine. The center will also strengthen cooperation with internal and external institutions, and will send out messages to Osaka, which aims to become a "Smart Aging City," and to the international community.
BNCT Research Center
Osaka Prefecture University has established the BNCT Research Center, the world's first joint research center specializing in the development of boron drugs. The center is engaged in innovative research and development projects centered on the quality evaluation of boron drugs, their use in cancer testing and diagnosis, and the development of new boron drugs.
Research Project to Pass on "Master Craftsmanship" in Al
Osaka Prefecture University has been selected for NEDO's "Research and Development Project for Early Social Implementation of Al Technology". We are helping to hand down the technology of curved surface forming of large steel plates for shipbuilding, which had been the domain of tacit knowledge, by making use of Al.
World-leading advanced research with potential for further development
Artificial photosynthesis research
Artificial photosynthesis research is the development of technology for the realization of complete clean energy using solar energy. In 2013, we established the Artificial Photosynthesis Research Center （Director: Prof. Yutaka Amao）, and our research is becoming more and more active. In 2013, we established the Artificial Photosynthesis Research Center, and our research is becoming more and more active. We have received various external funds, and based on the results of our basic research, we will continue to deepen our artificial photosynthesis technology in collaboration with industry, academia, and government, aiming to realize an ideal sustainable society with a carbon cycle.
Research in Creative Pharmaceuticals
Today, the global market for pharmaceuticals has seen a rapid increase in the share of biopharmaceuticals, which are high-molecular drugs created through biotechnology, as opposed to conventional small-molecular drugs. The development of biopharmaceuticals requires knowledge and skills in life sciences and medicinal chemistry, as well as a wide range of specialized techniques and knowledge, such as genetic recombination technology using animals, microorganisms, and cells, and cell culture technology. Osaka Prefecture University has established the Institute of Drug Discovery Science (Director: Professor Takashi Inui), where researchers from the fields of science, life science, veterinary medicine, and engineering are working on the development of medium-sized molecular drugs, drug delivery systems (DDS), pharmacokinetics, and animal models of diseases, forming a base for research and development from drug discovery to formulation.
Research for All-solid-state battery
The all-solid-state battery is one of the next generation storage batteries to replace lithium-ion batteries, and is expected to be used as an on-board power source for electric vehicles, etc. The all-solid-state battery is a safer and more energy-dense storage battery that replaces the electrolyte with solid snowmelt. Osaka Prefecture University has been actively engaged in related research for many years, with President Masahiro Tatsumisago leading the research in this field. In recent years, researchers have participated in a national project (all-solid-state battery team), and have developed solid electrolytes with the world's highest conductivity at room temperature, leading the way in the development of safer all-solid-state batteries.
